The 1992 Election (82 Weeks To Go)

By Kiera Reilly, C’93

The weekend of October 14-15, 2016 marked 82 weeks until the 25th Reunion of the Penn Class of 1993 (May 11 – 13, 2018)!

As the 2016 Presidential election is in full swing, we look back briefly at some of the 1992 Presidential election coverage from The Daily Pennsylvanian. This picture of an April 17, 1992 edition of the DP, shows that then-Democratic Presidential candidate Bill Clinton visited Wharton.

The front page of the DP on April 17, 1992 notes Democratic Presidential Candidate Bill Clinton visiting Wharton.

Who could have guessed then that twenty-four years later, President Bill Clinton’s wife Hillary would be attending a rally on campus as the Democratic nominee for President? Secretary Clinton and her running mate Tim Kaine visited Penn Park for a rally recently, and you can read about it in The DP! I guess Pennsylvania will always be a crucial state for the Presidential election, so Penn will probably continue seeing visits by candidates hoping to be President.

Do you remember the 1992 election? We would love to share more memories from that Spring and Fall and the election that included third party candidate Ross Perot!
